Why this particular cruise? The Spirit of Adventure was always targeted for mature cliental 55 plus but has just recently dropped the age to 21 plus. I wanted to experience the ship as it is becoming more and more popular for tourists in Australia. I heard that they had great food/ drink and facilities and really wanted to experience them. Where did the cruise go? The cruise went from Rome to Tenerife. 14 Nights visiting Casablanca, Madeira, Malaga and all the Canary Islands. Did the ship measure up to your expectations? Yes it did. I heard so many good reports about the ship, the staff, the service, the food and the shore excursions. All were fantastic and I thought it measured up to and beyond my expectations. What were the cabins like? The cabins were of good size and had all the necessary facilities TV, DVD player, fridge, safe, hair dryer, renovated bathroom, lots of storage space. Even though the ship is older than most ships cruising around today the cabins has been kept in great condition with renovations and is bright and airy.
The formal dinning option was great you couldn’t fault it, there was lots of choice and the menu changed daily. The menu consisted of 6 courses and the deserts were awesome. I had the same waiter/ beverage waiter and maître de every night and they treated me like royalty. The casual buffet option was great too. Again they changed the menu everyday and had the same main course as the main restaurant but you could pick and chose which I found very good. The chef would go ashore in the mornings and buy local fresh produce for the lunch and dinner. Which meant all sea food and fruit and vegetables were the best and freshest. What were the ships facilities like? They were great. Even though you were on a small ship the facilities on board was that of a large super liner. They had a huge library the biggest I have ever seen on a ship and was complete with sitting areas and coffee shop. The ship also had two main bars which was very modern with flush furnishings. I wasn’t too impressed by the pool area though as it didn’t have any sun beds around it. The sun beds were located on the upper sun deck. So it didn’t get used to its potential. The gym and inside pool area was great as well with modern facilities and equipment. What was the best aspect of the ship/cruise? The best aspect of the ship would have to be the food and the cheap alcohol. The best aspect of the cruise would be meeting different people and going to the Canary Islands, a destination that not many Australians would go as its more of a European destination. Who would this cruise appeal to? This ship/cruise would appeal to the older generation 55 plus. It is great value for money and all the staff and fellow guests were so friendly and welcoming. Any body who wanted to be a bit adventurous but still wanted the security and pleasures of Cruising as all shore excursions are included.
